Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy are not magical states or forms of mind control, they are natural processes, which have been utilized for deep relaxation, inner guidance, healing and counselling since early human civilisation. It is a natural phenomenon and each one goes through this state several times a day, particularly just before falling off to sleep and just prior to awakening.
The mind is divided into the conscious mind and subconscious mind. The conscious mind contains logic, rationalization, willpower, and short-term memory. It is the smaller area of our mind, which is said to account for 10% of our mental capacity. The subconscious mind is the larger part, sealed and gated by critical factors of the conscious mind. It contains all permanent memory, habits, and programming to generate emotions, intuition, and so on. Intuitive wisdom and creativity are also important functions of the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind strives to keep you alive and out of danger at all times even when you are asleep. It never sleeps and is always working in the back ground keeping your heart breathing, lungs and diaphragm working, making sure food gets digested and all other involuntary activities of your being functioning well.
During the awake state the conscious mind is awake and has control and during the sleep state the conscious mind is asleep and the subconscious has the control. During Hypnosis, the conscious mind is awake, but the control is in the subconscious part of the mind. This is a controlled state which is created by the therapist by overloading the conscious mind with message units. In this state, relaxation and healing or habit change is possible and the subconscious mind is in the hyper-suggestible mode.
Under this controlled environment, the hypnotherapist is able to help reprogram the subconscious mind with desired suggestions. The suggestions are structured by the client themselves while in the awake state. Therefore healing/habit change takes place as per the client’s wishes.

Case Study 1
‘S’ was ready to quit smoking but was unable to do it on his own. During Hypnotherapy he was shown the color of his lungs, a visualization of being a non-smoker and with appropriate suggestion was given to his subconscious mind. ‘S’ required another top up session in 3 weeks’ time and was able to quit smoking.
Case Study 2
‘D’ was brought to my clinic with anger issues. On investigation it was revealed that the anger was due to him being bullied at school. Under hypnosis the young schoolboy was given suggestion of calmness, focus and happiness and that his happiness was radiating to others. A visualization was also done under hypnosis where he was not being bullied, instead all were treating him as a friend due to his happiness. After a few months the parents reported a change in the behavior of the child and that he had not been suspended from school during those few months.
